Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) Workshop

Getting the Most Out of Volunteer Stewardship Projects:
Selection, Planning, Management and Implementation

Working with volunteers to complete outdoor stewardship projects can be really rewarding and productive or....not. A lot goes into first selecting a great volunteer project and then planning it, from identifying the work to be done, recruiting your volunteers, training leaders, making sure you have enough food, tools and materials for the project to making sure the volunteers have a safe and fun time and keeping them happy. In this session, we'll talk about why engaging volunteers is important, 6 steps to putting together a great volunteer project and some top tips for recruiting and working with volunteers

K-12 Education for Water 2012

Meet and network with others involved in youth water education! Join Water 2012 partners for an interactive forum to learn how Water 2012 will engage K-12 audiences in a statewide celebration of water: past, present, and future. Current activities will be discussed, such as the River of Words art and poetry contest as well as mechanisms to contribute to new initiatives in youth water education for 2012 and beyond. Nonpoint Source Program Workshop

Cost: Free

The Colorado Nonpoint Source program is again offering the NPS workshop. The workshop covers topics of interest for folks who might be planning to or might already be addressing nonpoint sources of pollution. The Colorado NPS program offers funding for many different types of approaches to addressing NPS pollution, information and technical assistance. The workshop is an opportunity for NPS program staff to present program and project specific information and for folks to interact with staff. The series of modules will cover topics from program strategy update, proposal development to future planning for NPS projects. The Colorado NPS program team will deliver the presentations and be available for one-on-one discussion during the workshop and during the conference. Drop-ins are welcomed. River Corridor Workshop on the Eagle River at Edwards

Cost: Free!

This year, the conference is offering you the opportunity to be a part of the future of bioengineering as a part of our Interactive River Corridor Workshop, co-hosted by the Eagle River Watershed Council on location at their Eagle River Restoration Project.

Thursday, October 6th, Greg Fenchel with the NRCS Los Lunas Plant Materials Center will teach us the Long Stem Technique, a cutting edge installation using long stem containerized plants that eliminates the constraints of dormancy, the headaches of storage, and costs of irrigation.  Greg’s field session is a part of our Interactive River Corridor Workshop, where attendees can rotate through 45- minute specialized work stations focused on riparian corridor health and function… or sign up to join an electrofishing crew! (first come, first served)
